このたび、hakari contemporary は東京を拠点に活動する作家、中村直人の個展「on the pier」を開催いたします。本展は2024年に開催された「Currents Art Award」受賞者の副賞として企画された展覧会です。中村はコロナ禍による移動制限を契機に、建築や言語を切り口として、近代社会を形作り、そこに生きる人々を取り巻く様々な構造に焦点を当てた制作を続けてきました。本展で中村は、近代社会を統治してきた規律と監視のメカニズムを参照しながら、移動制限のなくなった現在において、私たちが構造から脱する欲動はどのように働き、どこへ向かい、いかなる地点へ辿り着くのかを問います。

とりわけ島国に生きる私たちにとって、隣国との距離は漠然とした憧れを抱くと同時に、幾重もの煩雑な手続きを強いるものでもあります。その一つの応答が、新たな映像作品『IN ADEMIA』を軸としたインスタレーションとして提示されます。中村にとって初となる短編サイレント映画である本作では、主演としてラッパーのOtagiriと俳優の長沼航を迎え、都市が海に沈んだ世界で二人の男がボードゲームに翻弄される姿が描かれます。

本展は、私たちの思考や行動をかたちづくる見えない力と、そのただなかで生じる逸脱の可能性について考える機会となります。この機会にぜひご高覧下さい。

Hakari Contemporary is pleased to present on the pier, a solo exhibition by Tokyo-based artist Naoto Nakamura. The exhibition was conceived as part of the prize awarded to the recipient of the 2024 “Currents Art Award.” Since the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions it brought about, Nakamura has continued to focus on the various structures that shape modern society and surround those who live within it, approaching these subjects through architecture and language. In this exhibition, while referencing the mechanisms of discipline and surveillance that have governed modern society, Nakamura asks how our impulse to break free from such structures operates now that restrictions on movement have been lifted, where it is directed, and where it ultimately leads.

For those of us living on an island nation in particular, the distance from neighboring countries can inspire a vague sense of longing, while at the same time imposing layers of complicated procedures. One response to this is presented in the form of an installation centered on the new video work IN ADEMIA. Nakamura’s first short silent film, the work stars rapper Otagiri and actor Wataru Naganuma, portraying two men caught up in a board game in a world where the city has sunk beneath the sea.

This exhibition offers an opportunity to consider the unseen forces that shape our thoughts and actions, as well as the possibilities of deviation that emerge within them. We invite you to take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.

1996 年滋賀県生まれ。2019 年金沢美術工芸大学視覚デザイン専攻卒業後、東京を拠点にアーティスト、デザイナーとして活動。現在は東京藝術大学大学院グローバルアートプラクティス専攻に在籍。映像、写真、彫刻、小説など複数の領域にまたがる作品を制作し、インスタレーションとして構成をする。コロナをきっかけに、部屋の一角、団地の廊下など空間の断片を通じて、言語、建築といった一人では揺るがすことが難しい構造について問い始める。近年は、歴史や哲学を元に都市から排他された市民や、その移動方法についてリサーチをし、現代への接続を図る。

近年の主な展示に「中之条ビエンナーレ2025」（群馬県中之条町、2025 年）「ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2025」（京都新聞ビル地下1 階、2025 年）「TOKAS-Emerging 2024」（トーキョーアーツアンドスペース本郷、2024 年）などがある。Currents Art Award 2024 最優秀賞受賞。

Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1996, the artist graduated from the Department of Visual Design at Kanazawa College of Art, and now works as both an artist and a designer. The artist is currently enrolled in the Global Art Practice program at Tokyo University of the Arts. Working across multiple disciplines including photography, video, sculpture, installation, and fiction, the artist explores the untranslatability that accumulates at the boundary between acts of internal closure and external expansion, often through fragments of furniture and spaces. Prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the artist began questioning structures—such as language and architecture—that are difficult for a single individual to shake or reshape alone, exploring these structures through spatial fragments such as the corner of a room or the corridor of a danchi housing complex. In recent years, drawing on history and philosophy, the artist has researched citizens excluded from the city and their methods of movement, seeking to connect these inquiries to the present.

Recent exhibitions include “Nakanojo Biennale 2025,” “ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2025,” and “TOKAS-Emerging 2024.” The artist received the Grand Prize at the Currents Art Award 2024.

神奈川県相模原市生まれ横浜市出身、沖縄恩納村在住。ラッパー／詩人。

2014 年チェルフィッチュ『ポストラップ』主演(＠東京都立現代美術館)。2020 年チェルフィッチュｘOtagiriｘ丹下紘希『アウトラップ』公開(＠Vimeo)。2021 年『The Radiant』発表(w/DJ MAYAKU)。2024 年獸( 第2 章/ BEAUTIFUL DAYDREAM)、2025 年獸( 第3 章/ EDGE) 出演。

Born in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, brought up in Yokohama, he now resides in Onna Village, Okinawa. Rapper, poet.

In 2014, he starred in Chelfitsch / Toshiki Okada’s POSTRAP @Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. In 2020, Chelfitsch x Otagiri x Kouki Tange’s OUTRAP was released @Vimeo. In 2021, he released his first album, co-produced w/DJ MAYAKU, The Radiant exclusively on Bandcamp. In 2024, he was on stage of JYU Episode 2: BEAUTIFUL DAYDREAM, and also Episode 3: EDGE in 2025.

長沼航
NAGANUMA Wataru

俳優。1998 年生まれ。

散策者・ヌトミックに所属し、演劇・ダンス・現代美術などの領域でパフォーマンスの創作・上演に関わる。最近の企画に原涼音ソロパフォーマンスシリーズ『温かい部屋』、出演作にヌトミック『彼方の島たちの話』、倉田 翠/akakilike『病癒えし者の着色された魚への聖なる感謝の歌』（以上、2025）、タイラー・コバーン『燭台の男』（2023/2026）など。

Actor. Born in 1998.

He is a member of Sansakusya and Nuthmique and works across theater, dance, and contemporary art. Recent projects include HARA Suzune’s solo performance series A warm room. Recent performances include Nuthmique’s Tales of the Distant Islands and KURATA Midori / akakilike’s Holy Song of Thanksgiving of a Convalescent to the Colored Fish (both 2025), as well as Tyler Coburn’s Candlestick Man (2023/2026).
